measuring your penis

There have been numerous studies about the size of the male sexual organ, most supported by self-reporting participants. Researchers asked guys to measure their dicks and turn in the answers, or they correlated data from websites where guys self-reported—the honor system. This is why most guys are unsure if they are “average, below, or above.” The few studies in which researchers performed actual measurements have interesting findings. Taking this into account, here is what we have learned:

  • When erect, a penis that measures under 3 inches is considered a “micropenis” (that’s the scientific term, not a value judgment), affecting 0.6 percent of guys.
  • Most studies agree that the average length of a flaccid (soft) cock is around 3-3.5 inches.
  • The length of a flaccid penis has little to no bearing on its erect size or girth. An international Men’s Health survey reported that 79 percent of men are “growers.”
  • A staff study published in the September 1996 Journal of Urology found the average erect dick to be around 5 inches in length.
  • But a July 10, 2013 study from the Journal of Sexual Medicine raised the bar, so to speak, to 5.6 inches, with 4.8 inches of girth.
  • That same study found an erection range of 1.6 inches to 10.2 inches.
  • The study also added that only 15 percent of men are over 7 inches long, and only 3 percent are over 8 inches.
  • And that almost 20% of men have a stiff dick of fewer than 4.5 inches.
  • Finally, it also stated that those most unhappy with the size of their member, where penis anxiety was the highest, were gay, bisexual, and older men. Like that’s news to us.
  • The famous Kinsey Institute study found that the average gay man’s penis was more significant than his straight brother’s (6.32 inches vs. 5.99). This data has been challenged many times over . . .
  • A 1999 study published by the Archives of Sexual Behavior reaffirmed that, on average, erect gay male penises tended to be 1/3 of an inch longer than straight dudes.
  • A 2011 study of 1,065 gay men, entitled “The Association between Penis Size and Sexual Health among Men who have sex with men,” found gays with smaller cocks were more likely to become “bottoms,” and those with more enormous cocks were more likely to identify themselves as “tops.”
  • The above study also found those with more enormous dicks were more likely to contract certain STIs but nonetheless found more satisfaction with their lifestyle. At the same time, those with smaller willies were more likely to “be psychologically troubled.”
  • The best way to increase the size perception of your dick is to:
  • Lose the beer gut!
  • Stop smoking! This will increase erection size and strength because smoking reduces blood flow to the penis, costing you centimeters of stiff, hard cock. Smoking can also cause impotence and erectile dysfunction. So, yeah, there’s that.
  • No matter what you have heard, read, or experienced, no reputable, verifiable study shows any link or correlation between penis size and ethnicity.
